Young adults with an interest in the performing arts can join the new Emergent Theatre Co. program in the City of Kingston in 2019.
Kingston Arts and Kingston Youth Services have joined together to create an opportunity for local people aged 18-25 years to gain experience in the performing arts. Those who participate will be able to learn new skills, polish existing skills and have the chance to become a part of the Melbourne theatre world.
Participants will work together to create their own piece of theatre, which will be showcased at the Midsumma Festival in 2020. Attendees will be involved in all stages of the process - writing, producing, directing and staging the creative production.
In order to help the budding writers, actors, directors and backstage crew, support from a wide range of professionals within the theatre industry will be made available alongside access to events and shows around Melbourne.
There are many different aspects to theatre productions that require attention away from the stage including sound, lighting, props, makeup and graphic design for sets, promotional Posters and programs.
The project will run from the beginning of April until the start of October, with participants meeting weekly at Kingston Arts Centre, 979 Nepean Highway, Moorabbin each Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm.
