Mnozil Brass members blow their own trumpet

Mnozil Brass, a unique septet from Vienna, is certain to meet a new generation of fans at the Arts Centre in Moorabbin later this month.

The world tour, covering international dates along with visits to almost every Australian state, celebrates 20 years of the band. Mnozil Brass is totally original in style, characterised by virtuoso performances comprising freestyle jams, absurdist humour, and heavenly harmonies.

The band began in 1992 by playing on the street outside Josif Mnozil’s tavern in Vienna. They quickly became popular regulars at the tavern and, in 1993, were invited to play at the famous Kolpinghaus Alsergrund concert house. The band has continued to rise in stature in musical circles, both classical and modern, and now lays on over 120 concerts per year.

Personable, humorous, and ultra-cool, Mnozil Brass is a poster printers dream. Accompanied by an impressive array of classical and modern instruments, including the rare keyed trumpet and Wagner tuba, the band are here to impress.

There are few bands that can add slapstick to the classics and get away with it. Within the blink of an eye (or ear), the soaring harmonies of Bohemian Rhapsody may devolve into Austrian drinking and folk songs. The next moment could herald an immaculate version of the William Tell Overture, followed by cool jazz.

Coming to Moorabbin on September 25, Mnozil Brass is sure to make a whole new bunch of fans here and it is a fair bet that flyer printing will increase by the time word spreads of the bands next visit to Australia.
