Local community groups are being offered an opportunity to secure a grant to help celebrate Children’s Week.
Kingston Council – which includes suburbs such as Mentone, Clayton South, Aspendale, and Moorabbin – offers the grants each year to give children and their families a chance to take part in locally organised activities.
According to John Nevins, Kingston CEO, the Grants program provides up to $1,000 for non-profit organisations and community groups to celebrate Children’s Week with one-off activities to be enjoyed by everyone.
In previous years, the grants have funded very successful family fun days, as well as a number of Open Days where the focus has been on childhood health and diversity.
The rights and needs of children, together with a recognition of the achievements of young people, feature prominently throughout Children’s Week, which will this year be held from October 18th to 26th across the nation.
The theme this year is A Caring World Shares and community members are urged to get together in promoting the ongoing development, learning, health and wellbeing of children.
Scheduled events for the week are often promoted via flyer printing campaigns throughout the suburbs. Applications for grants close on August 8th.
Further information can be obtained online at the Kingston Council website or from its Family and Children’s Services Quality and Development Coordinator.
