Funding sparks green light for new shed

East Bentleigh is set to be the location of the new Bentmoor Men’s Shed, currently based in Moorabbin.

A facility that will offer locals an opportunity to build community connections, skills and friendships, the new shed has received $80,000 in funding to help Glen Eira Council with construction costs.

The 120 current Bentmoor members, who have outgrown the Moorabbin site, are excited about the new home where many more locals will be able to join them in key activities ranging from art projects, welding and metalwork to woodworking.

In making the announcement, Nick Staikos, Member for Bentleigh, said the project is among eight new sheds and 15 refurbished projects being undertaken state-wide, adding:

“Men’s sheds are vitally important spaces for men in our area to socialise, have a cuppa, learn new skills and give back to the community. I am delighted this funding will help more people and look forward to hearing about the results of this project in the months to come.”

Membership drives for community groups such as these have often been undertaken via local area flyer printing campaigns.

Men’s sheds provide a chance to actively engage with the local community and are renowned as being productive and safe areas where men can work together on projects.

In Victoria alone, there are more than 360 Men’s Sheds and in excess of 1,000 Australia-wide.
