Cheltenham seeks players to join new womens baseball team

Women with a passion for baseball are being invited to step up to the plate as a member of the Cheltenham Baseball Club.

Players from Moorabbin, and throughout the City of Kingston are welcome to join the new women’s baseball team which will swing into action for this year’s Summer League competition run by Baseball Victoria.

Cheltenham Club president, Lance Blackley, said it was time to add a women’s baseball team to the mix of T-ball, masters, juniors, and seniors baseball groups which account for 350 members and over 30 teams who play throughout the year. Blackley added that the introduction of the women’s programme would allow the club to expand its appeal to the community.

Training for the women’s team will begin next month, and will be followed later in the year by a social baseball programme starting in October.

Girls and women in the 13 to 40 plus age group are urged to join the new team which is set to provide something new, challenging and exciting, according to the Club’s president.

Flyer printing for distribution throughout the community is well underway in an effort to recruit new members in time for the start of training.

Blackley said coaching staff and all equipment will be supplied by the club, which recently celebrated 101 years of operation.
