Community to benefit from 2015 Arts grants allocations

Residents from throughout the City of Kingston, including Moorabbin, Victoria, will be able to enjoy a feast of creative works as part of the latest Kingston Arts Grants.

A total of $22,000 has been distributed between six local organisations and artists to initiate original works, which will include public and theatre performances, exhibitions and a community-inspired mural.

Mayor Geoff Gledhill said the arts grants provided an ideal opportunity to support arts organisations and local artists. Kingston, he added, was fortunate in having many diverse and interesting groups of artists and he was looking forward to seeing the grant recipient projects in action.

The four categories open to participants included Sharing Cultures (up to $5,000), Arts and Cultural Tourism (up to $5,000), Youth Arts Internship (up to $3,000) and Community Arts (up to $3,000).

Many of the activities successful at the 2015 grant allocations are expected to be well publicised via the media and flyer printing.

The grant projects included the design and installation of a large-scale mural by finalist in the 2012 Archibald Prize Michael Peck. The mural will be preceded by a series of workshops.

Lillian Addie, an emerging painter from Mentone, will be able to complete an internship at the Moorabbin studio of esteemed artist Jon Cattapan thanks to the arts grant.

Other grant recipients included the Emerge Women and Children’s Support Network, Renae Shadler, playwright Kieran Carroll and artist Beata Dorain.
