Celebrate the race that stops the nation in Richlands

Racing fans who live in the Richlands area might wish to join in the celebration of the Melbourne Cup at The Lion.

The Melbourne Cup is an annual thoroughbred horse race, taking place at the Flemington Racecourse, and is part of the Spring Racing Carnival. It is one of the few major handicap horseraces in the world.

Starting at 3pm on the first Tuesday of November, it is firmly part of Australian culture. The race marks a public holiday within the city of Melbourne and some parts of Victoria. Most people will stop and watch or listen to the race, which was first held in 1861 and has run every year since, apart from during the first and second World Wars.

At The Lion, the race will be celebrated in style with raffles and prizes to be won. There will also be live entertainment and prizes for the best dressed men and women and the best dressed group. There will also be the facility to make bets, using the TAB facility.
