The major multi-million dollar play space and water park received top recognition at the IPWEAQ 2021 Excellence Awards for both its unique, outstanding design and its location. The feature represents the entry piece to Moreton Bay's most substantial developments for many years.
The industry award was welcomed by Mayor of Moreton Bay Peter Flannery, who said it reinforced the attraction's popularity with visitors and residents, adding:
"For a project this big, we needed a statement piece that spoke to The Mill being an inclusive space for the entire region."
Flannery said the venue was ideal for families wanting to picnic or enjoy the water park activities and the latest recognition by leading engineers, Parks and Leisure Australia, and the Landscape Architects Institute proves it is among Queensland's best.
Such major outdoor venues are often showcased as part of tourist brochure printing campaigns that list top local places of interest.
The council's Mick Gillam said the construction of the new space was the start of bigger projects to come at The Mill.
Gillam added that the latest award also paid tribute to the smart technology that had gone into the massive project, and the challenges overcome by construction crews and park planners to bring it to fruition.
