Peter Flannery, Moreton Bay Mayor, said Tennis Queensland will take on the management role around June 2021, when the new Harris Avenue Sports Complex, currently being constructed, is expected to be officially opened. He welcomed the inaugural occupant and said it will help establish the new club and a coach, adding:
“Council has an ambitious sports infrastructure programme and we continue racking up wins, like yesterday’s announcement that Brisbane Roar will be playing all their home A-League matches in Redcliffe."
Mayor Flannery encouraged children to consider tennis when seeking a sport to play, and said the new precinct will offer a clubhouse, six courts and car parking.
The upgrade of sports infrastructure across Moreton Bay Council's area has been a major focus of investment, according to the mayor, who said it is important to keep up with the growing population. He said that as a result, the council's sports infrastructure spend had risen from $34 million to $49 million in 2020-21.
First occupants of major sporting venues such as the new tennis centre fill an important role, which often includes everything from organising administration needs like Letterheads to the appointment of a tennis coach. Tennis Queensland has signed a three-year management deal.
