Dolphin Stadium in Moreton Bay is set to have its seating capacity increased, following a funding approval worth $2.5 million.
The stadium is home to many of the region’s sporting clubs including the Caboolture Snakes and A-League’s Brisbane Roar. The news was announced recently by Allan Sutherland, the Mayor of the Moreton Bay Regional Council.
He said that economically, it made sense to contribute financially towards creating a 10,000 capacity boutique venue as part of the stadium’s stage 3 works.
The venue played host to an A-League soccer match between Melbourne City and Brisbane Roar in November and attracted a great crowd, and the Mayor said there is no reason why more elite-level sports such as this could not be held at the stadium.
The Federal Government has also committed $3.5 million to the project. The stadium’s ability to attract large crowds has been considered as a big win by Economic Development, Events and Tourism spokesperson, Peter Flannery.
Many sporting and community events held at venues such as Dolphin Stadium are often advertised through poster printing. Councillor Flannery said many visitors not only travel for events at the stadium but also stay longer, effectively adding to income from local tourism.
The top-class venue is also expected to provide pathways for members of the region’s sporting clubs including the Caboolture Snakes, Moreton Bay Raiders and the North Lakes Kangaroos.
