The proposed development on the old sawmill site contains futuristic features including the channelling of rainfall through contoured streetscapes and into garden beds designed to be self-watering.
Also on the agenda, according to development guidelines proposed for the project, is the provision of WiFi and phone-charging via integrated smart-street lighting plus a central plaza where the staging of events will be a focus.
A vision into the future was needed for the precinct which is geared to utilise cutting-edge technologies and design, according to Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland who added:
“The Mill will be an incubator for innovation, technology and sustainability so it is only fitting that its public spaces should reflect that with the highest standards of urban design.”
Mayor Sutherland said the Development Scheme for The Mill at Moreton Bay was well supported by the proposed Streetscape Guidelines and Civic Space and Park Guidelines.
The council will use the guidelines to help assess proposals for a public plaza, park, civic space, laneway and street. Often these proposals are the subject of a detailed graphic design.
The current consultation period will end on September 20.
