The successful nominees will vie for top honours in the categories of Youth Sports Award, Sports Award, Environment Award, Arts and Culture Award, Volunteer of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Citizen of the Year.
The awards recognise everyday people and their extraordinary achievements and contributions, according to Mayor of Moreton Bay Peter Flannery. He added:
“This year we’ve seen so many incredible locals rise to the challenge of COVID-19, particularly through our Moreton Bay Tough campaign.”
He said the council needed help to identify, acknowledge and congratulate deserving individuals within the community across all award categories, including Citizen of the Year, which is a role that is both inspirational and illustrative of someone with a continued commitment to a passion or field.
The 2020 winner, Alison Taylor, took out the award for her unwavering community spirit and passion that contributed to the growth of the culture, community and arts festival scene in Daysboro. Events such as these have often been the focus of local flyer printing campaigns, which have sought to boost attendances by spreading the word.
To be eligible, nominees must be a resident of Moreton Bay and a citizen of Australia. The Youth Sports and Young Citizen of the Year award categories are open to people aged 18 or younger as of January 26, 2021. Nominations close on October 30, 2020.
