She said that following the recently held Queensland Day when last year’s winners were announced, there was no time like the present to begin looking at other champions from the area whose contributions were worthy of national recognition, adding:
“Many of those making a profound difference remain on the periphery of our national consciousness because they are too busy and too selfless to draw attention to their work. Now I’m also calling on Queenslanders to name names and ensure our most outstanding contributors—including seniors, young people and local heroes—receive the national praise they deserve.”
Last year, there were 423 Queenslanders nominated which, according to the Premier, highlighted the level of dedication and talent across all areas of endeavour and influence in the State. The 2019 winners included Detective Inspector John Rouse, Professor James Dale, and Angel Dixon.
Queensland nominations for next year’s Australian of the Year will close on July 31. Brochure printing is often conducted to advertise finalists in major events such as the Australian of the Year.
All award recipients are to be announced in late 2019 and will then represent Queensland in Canberra for the national awards, which are to be held in conjunction with Australia Day 2020.
