According to Mayor of Moreton Bay Peter Flannery, the museum had been adversely impacted due to the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic, which led to the cancellation of its major fundraiser, the Abbey Medieval Festival, for two years running, as well as other important programmes being put on hold.
The festival is among many popular local events that have often been the focus of strategic brochure printing campaigns to boost potential attendance figures.
Since 1986, the unique museum, which hosts collections of artefacts, antiquities and fine art from iconic eras such as Medieval Europe, the Roman Empire, Iron and Bronze Ages and prehistoric Europe, has been an important feature of the region.
The entity is a not-for-profit organisation that also offers work experience internships and placements, secondary and primary student education programmes and research support and, according to Flanneru, its iconic collection should be preserved for the benefit of future generations. He added:
“The antiquities, artefacts and art works have major national significance, and are in high demand from other institutions to loan for their collections.”
The move by the Regional Council of Moreton Bay has assisted in securing a bright future for the museum's many priceless artefacts from around the world.
