Recently awarded, the grants were part of a total of $278,498 allocated to 55 community groups by Moreton Bay Regional Council. The latest grants were for a range of requests from $447 to the QCWA branch at Burpengary to acquire a PA system to a $25,000 interest-free loan for the U3A Kallangur Centre to install solar panels.
Council’s grants programme was introduced to help community groups enhance and grow the service they provide, according to Mayor Allan Sutherland. He described sporting and community organisations as the ‘heart and soul’ of local communities and believed it was important to make this investment towards future success, adding:
“Some community groups need financial assistance to purchase equipment or improve their facilities, while others may need help to get a new event off the ground.”
Events such as Redcliffe’s Anniversary Orchid Show and a community fishing day at Hornibrook Bridge are also among grant recipients. Such events are often publicised using flyer printing throughout the region.
Grants were awarded in six categories, which include ‘Community Facilities Interest Free Loans’, ‘Regional Arts Development Fund’, ‘Organisation Equipment’ and ‘Community Activities’.
