The allocation was provided recently as part of the Council's annual grants fund for community groups, which this year totals $300,000. In excess of 60 groups throughout the region benefitted from grants up to $15,000.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the annual contribution was extremely important to local community groups and added:
"The funds will not only assist the groups themselves but also the countless residents who rely on their services. These groups will now be able to perform important facility upgrades and purchase much needed equipment to ensure the safety and enjoyment of residents across the region."
Often grants such as this provide an opportunity for community groups to advertise their services via marketing strategies such as flyer printing campaigns.
The Mayor said the list of upgrades, improvements and purchases will also include everything from the installation of safety lights and new car parks to defibrillators, storage bins, office equipment and website development.
The many grant recipients ranged from $600 to Neighbourhood Watch Woody Point to stage a community day and $1,050 for U3A to hold a Senior's Month concert to $15,000 to Pine Hills Football Club for the upgrade of field lighting.
An amount of $13,149 was also granted to the Mount Mee Community Cemetery to replace and paint fencing. All successful applicants are listed on Council's website.
