The free seven-week Creating Your Future Job programme is an initiative of Moreton Bay Council and provides 100 spaces for 15 to 24-year-old youths who may be at risk of moving away from mainstream employment or education.
Mayor of Moreton Bay Peter Flannery said the programme is unique and gives youths in-person training on practical skills in work areas that suit their abilities, needs and interests. He added:
“During the programme students will have to identify local problems and will be trained to brainstorm micro-business solutions to solve them.”
Flannery said the aim is to develop a team of engaged and motivated individuals within the community and to assist them to turn top ideas into thriving commercial enterprises, which will keep them locally based and see them employ and grow others within the region.
Flyer printing campaigns have often helped to spread the word about innovative programmes such as this that are available for local youth.
Mayor Flannery said it is hoped the programme, which is set to begin in Term 4 this year, will see participants start and develop real small businesses that, in the future, will have the ability to make an impact within the region. Youth organisations and schools are invited to submit expressions of interest in the programme by 20 August.
