Mayor of Moreton Bay Peter Flannery said that the move was made jointly with the Queensland Government, and it will effectively allow detailed planning for development in Caboolture's west to begin. He added:
“Once that work is done Council will be able to map out each major road, park, shopping centre, and housing development within Neighbourhood Development Plan Area 1.”
Flannery added that the right balance of infrastructure, transport, housing and environmental outcomes is the ultimate aim, as well as providing a clear and concise plan of the council’s expectations to developers.
The mayor said the development in Caboolture West will help ease pressures caused by population growth by creating housing to accommodate almost 70,000 residents. The construction process will also stimulate an estimated $9.5 billion in economic activity, in addition to providing 17,000 jobs.
Major projects such as this can also benefit many local businesses, ranging from retail outlets to Print shops.
The region of Moreton Bay is among Australia's fastest growing, with new resident totals expected to reach 240,000 by 2040. An Outline Plan for Caboolture West, prepared by Ethos Urban, was handed to the council back in October.
