To be located at Brendale, plans for the new facility were launched recently at the Pine Rivers BMX Club by Deputy Mayor Mike Charlton, World BMX Champion for Under-9s Fraser Vaughan and multiple-World Champion Thomas Tucker.
Tucker is a resident who is among a number of riders in the Moreton Bay region to have excelled on the world stage, according to Councillor Charlton.
The new BMX precinct is set to provide world class facilities for BMX enthusiasts from Brendale, Caboolture and throughout the region with a race track to be built to professional grade and national standards plus an eatery and grandstand.
Once completed, the facility is expected to draw major national and international events and competitors to the region which would give the local economy a huge boost, according to Councillor Charlton who added:
“BMX continues to grow with national membership eclipsing 25,000 in 2017, and Moreton Bay is in a strong position to capitalise on the sport’s growth.”
The latest announcement follows the allocation of $50,000 in council’s 2018/19 budget towards the start of detailed graphic design work for the BMX precinct. The concept images have already impressed the president of Pine Rivers BMX Club Mark Vaughan who expressed the need for a facility in South East Queensland.
