Constructed on the Georges River foreshore at the end of Carinya Road, the work included a gangway on the new public pontoon, boat ramp repairs, riverbank stabilisation and modifications to the trailer and boat parking area.
Mayor Khal Asfour said much planning was undertaken to enable the project to reach fruition and he added:
"To budget and plan for jobs such as this one is no small task. This is especially the case when we needed to liaise constantly with the NSW Government to actually start the project."
He said it is now hoped locals will take advantage of the facilities by hanging out at the pontoon and launching their water crafts from the new-look boat ramp. Facilities such as this along the foreshore have often been a focus of local brochure printing campaigns that promotes popular tourist spots in the area.
The foreshore of the Georges River is considered a great recreational asset, according to the Mayor who said the upgrades were an added bonus for people wanting to relax somewhere close to home.
This latest project is the second completed in a short space of time with upgrades to two foot bridges along the walkway between Picnic Point and Lambeth Reserve also now being enjoyed by residents.
