TAP identifies, promotes and nurtures talented vocalists through a number of workshops carried out by experienced mentors and coaches, as well as providing performance opportunities, according to Director of TAP Wendy Tierney. She added:
"We're on the lookout for someone who is enthusiastic, eager to better themselves and someone who wants to commit to development."
During the past 12 months, due to COVID-19, live performances had not been conducted, with most being either filmed or recorded for TAP's annual December concert. With a return to near normality, live performances were immediately back on the table, which, according to Tierney, provided an opportunity to call for young talent to audition.
TAP is a community project presented jointly by Bankstown Sports, Canterbury Bankstown City and the Department of Education in New South Wales. It began in 2002 and has so far identified and nurtured more than 350 youths. These have included success stories such as Paulini and Casey Donovan. Flyer printing campaigns targeting local high schools have often helped to attract interest in opportunities such as TAP.
The auditions will feature 12- to 18-year-old students who attend school or live in the Canterbury Bankstown Council area. They are set to take place from March 3 to 5.
