Budding performers from Milperra and throughout the Canterbury Bankstown area will be enlisted for a special stage production by renowned director Stefo Nantsou.
After being awarded a $48,500 grant to mount the new project entitled The Bond, the Bankstown Youth Development Service is keen to celebrate the shared stories of some of the area’s youth in a unique stage production that will be promoted via poster printing and online media.
Youth Off the Streets Bankstown will help in the local search for an ensemble of young people who will be coached to fill the drama’s respective roles.
Director Tim Carroll said the project will unite young people from throughout the district for both a common purpose and in the articulation of a selection of powerful stories that represent true life experiences of youth in today’s society.
He said the stories will be the focus of a series of workshops to be hosted by Newcastle-born Nantsou, who is the author of more than 50 plays.
The workshops will be followed by major performances at Peace Park Canterbury and Bankstown Arts Centre.
Mr Carroll said many theatre enthusiasts will remember Bankstown Youth performances `The Way’ and `Look the Other Way’, in which Natsou was also instrumental.
Drama facilitator, poet and actor Kevin Ngo is excited about the latest project and said he was looking forward to once again working with a director of Nantsou’s stature.
