Milperra area to join in cultural celebration

An area near Milperra will be hosting one of Sydney’s most popular cultural events and residents of the surrounding suburbs are encouraged to join in.

Ramadan Nights, which attracted more than 1.4 million people last year, will be taking over the streets once again. This event is set to bring life to the local community and give people the opportunity to experience the traditions and rich culture behind Ramadan.

Ramadan is the most sacred month in the Islamic culture. Those of Muslim faith fast during the daylight hours, and then gather together for Iftar, the evening meal, to break their fast. It is important to remember this is a significant cultural event – it will be an alcohol free occasion, and attendees are encouraged to dress modestly.

More than 65 food stalls will line the streets to offer their traditional cuisines. The area transforms into a vibrant bazaar at night with a rich atmosphere. While walking through the event, attendees may be drawn to the eye-catching graphic design of multiple Signs and Banners advertising the stall holder businesses.

This event will run from Saturday, 9 March to Monday, 8 April on Haldon Street, The Boulevard and Railway Parade in Lakemba. Road closures will occur daily from 5pm to 3am as stalls will operate throughout the week, and celebrations will increase from Thursday through Sunday nights.
