In total, 263 new recruits graduated from the Academy based in Goulburn and Police and Emergency Services Minister, David Elliott said their assignments would begin during the next few weeks. Those assigned to metropolitan police stations began on April 14.
Elliott welcomed the new batch of recruits whom he said had arrived at a time of great need for first responders within the community and added:
“These officers can be assured they have the full support of this Government. The NSW Government has invested $583 million to introduce 1,500 extra police over the next four years, the biggest investment in police for more than 30 years.”
The new probationary constables will also give the NSW Police force a real boost in numbers in their hour of need and when communities are facing the COVID-19 threat, according to Commissioner Mick Fuller.
Class 340 saw 86 women and 177 men graduate and all entered the academy from different backgrounds. Many had Business Cards from trades and professional careers while others entered straight from university or school.
Overseas-born graduates totalled 31 and came from Lebanon, Thailand, USA, Afghanistan and Italy while there were also five Indigenous recruits. Recruits have put graduation celebrations on hold for now but Commissioner Fuller said an appropriate send-off will be held in the future.Get a Free Quote for Business Cards
