A free ‘Introductory Food Handler Training Course’ on offer by Bankstown City Council has attracted strong interest from food operators throughout the City including Milperra.
Fettaylah Smallgoods, a wholesale meat supplier in Milperra signed up the outlet’s Quality Assurance Manager and 14 staff members to participate in the course which is conducted by the Bankstown Business Advisory Services (BBAS).
During the past 12 months graduates of the course have totalled more than 500 people. Each has successfully completed training in food safety requirements, hygiene, safely storing food, cleaning, sanitising, and temperature control.
The Mayor of Bankstown, Linda Downey, said the course was ideal for food handlers and operators and provided a great opportunity to refresh and build on personal experiences.
Downey stated that the wide range of ethnic backgrounds that exists among food operators was also addressed by the food handler training course, as it was provided in a number of languages, including English, Arabic, Chinese and Vietnamese.
The Mayor stressed the importance of operating a food business that met all the required quality and safety standards. She said residents should be able to confidently buy food from any outlet knowing it has been correctly and safely prepared.
