As part of the City of Canterbury-Bankstown’s and Youth Off The Street’s Roaming Rainbow project, young people have been illustrating their talents by submitting decorated chairs and desks, short stories and poems into a creative arts competition.
The artwork produced on tables and chairs was a particular highlight for Susie Mobayed, who is Principal of Condell Park High School.
She said such a project was a great community project in which children could become involved and it enabled students to learn more about their heritage while also having their work displayed to the entire community.
Mobayed said it was fascinating to see the diversity of students in the school become intertwined within one artwork, with designs representing everything from Samoan to Vietnamese cultures represented.
The work of all schools was highly commended by Administrator Richard Colley, who said:
“This project embodies community spirit and the acceptance and respect we have for one another’s culture.”
He said it also highlights the way different ethnicities live together and thrive beside one another.
On June 28, the Roaming Rainbow exhibition will be launched at the Canterbury-Bankstown Arts Centre, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with the event advertised locally on Flyers.
Prizes valued at up to $500 will be in the offering for competition entrants.
