Milperra cyclists will be among hundreds to line up for this year’s free ‘Wheel Out West’ event.
An initiative of Bankstown City Council the event (for the first time since it was introduced as the Bike Around Bankstown in 2010) will be jointly run with Fairfield City Council. To reflect this new partnership this year’s cycling route has been extended to include both the Fairfield Local Government Area and Mirambeena Regional Park.
A spokesperson for Bankstown City Council said that participants will be able to choose between a long ride through both local government areas while beginners can take a shorter course around Garrison Point.
He added a special cycle skills workshop will also be available for the newer riders, which should encourage more riders to take part in the event, with last year’s attracting close to 100 riders.
Flyer printing to alert locals to the event is expected to draw out some first time event participants who will congregate at Garrison Point on September 12.
A Cycle Skills Workshop hosted by Austcycle accredited instructors will be held for beginners from 9am to 9.45am.
The Short 7 kilometre ride will be conducted from 10:00 am to 11.30 am while the Long Ride will take cyclists on a 25km journey beginning at 10.30am for approximately 2.5 hours.
