According to Mayor Khal Asfour, the city is expected to host 155,000 workers and half-a-million residents by 2036, which has prompted the council to draft several proposed master plans to prepare for the influx.
At a recent luncheon, the council revealed its vision in a special animated 3D flythrough video, along with proposed master plans for Bankstown and Campsie. Draft plans for the city's strategy regarding economic development and an action plan for the night time economy were also presented.
Asfour commented the plans would see places the community would be proud created, and he added:
“Bankstown will be growing into a more jobs-focussed centre, capitalising on the new metro, a 22-storey university and new planned hospital.”
The mayor said a strong focus on smart technology and environmental sustainability will be applied to residential development in the future, with gas appliances banned and solar panels on the rooftop compulsory.
Already second in the state for the total of registered firms its hosts, the city is expecting employment and opportunities for other businesses, such as printing services and retail outlets, to grow substantially in the coming years.
Situated in the heart of Greater Sydney, the city is well-situated to be the top premier entrepreneurial centre in the region, according to the mayor.
