The Centre received the FBi Radio Sydney Music, Arts and Culture (SMAC) Best Arts Programme Award for last year’s Boundless Festival. The event was made possible through the collaboration between the Centre and Writing NSW, together with Sweatshop.
The event aimed at helping people to unpack issues that were pressing and also celebrated and showcased the talents of culturally diverse and Indigenous writers. The Festival touched the entire community with many also enjoying a full day of performances and special events including an exhibition, discussion panels and conversations sessions. Topics covered included the significance of reclaiming and reviving Indigenous languages. Special events such as this are often advertised via media coverage and flyer printing.
Mayor Khal Asfour said that receiving the award in just its second year did not only reflect the innovation and dedication of staff, but also reaffirmed Bankstown as a truly happening place, and added:
"This recognition from independent youth radio station FBi, really shows that our programs are cutting through in speaking and relating to young people.”
Also nominated in the category was a Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre dance tournament.
