Views on new showground precinct plans invited

Community feedback is being sought by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment on plans to transform the Castle Hill Showground Metro precinct.

The proposal includes new businesses, shops and homes in a master-planned development to be undertaken by Landcom. The multi-million dollar plans revealed nine commercial and residential buildings to soar up to 20 storeys. Roads, landscaping, a plaza, a park and in excess of 13,000sqm of retail and commercial space has also been proposed along with 1,900 homes.

The Department’s Compliance, Key Sites and Industry Executive Director Anthea Sargent said the development would involve several stages and there were design strategies and guidelines included in the proposal. She said that gaining input from the community was a vital step in the planning stages and urged people to put their thoughts forward, adding:

“The Hills Showground Concept Plan proposal would provide a mix of housing, including 5% affordable housing, commercial developments and new public open space around the new Hills Showground Station.”

She said views about the Station Precinct plans would also provide essential community input to assist the Department in making a rigorous and thorough assessment of any potential impacts. Exhibitions of proposed plans for community feedback such as this have often included a graphic design of the development.

The proposed Castle Hill Showground Metro Precinct development will be on public exhibition until December 10.
