Castle Hill tradesmen are among 300 people fine-tuning or extending their skill set at the NorthConnex training centre.
The new training hub was opened recently by New South Wales Deputy Premier John Barilaro, accompanied by Hornsby MP Matt Kean and NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gay.
Barilaro said the skills centre will see apprentices and skilled workers gaining valuable on-the-job training by taking part in the major motorway project, details of which have been a focus of booklet printing and the media.
He said 8,700 employers in total will be enlisted to complete the NorthConnex project with participants at the NorthConnex training centre providing 300 of those including labourers, tunnellers, electricians and carpenters. Some will be refining their skills while others will be trained for specific roles.
The duration of the project is two years.
State MP Matt Kean is delighted with the NorthConnext training opportunity which, he says, will also create pathways for coming generations of apprentices throughout the State.
This will ensure, he added, that the North Connex project will be a stepping stone to further employment for those taking part and allow them to provide the community with the benefit of their work skills for a long time in the future.
A major 9km tunnel link between the Hills M2 Motorway and the M1 Motorway between West Pennant Hills and Wahroonga, NorthConnex is expected to open to traffic in 2019.
