New football league coming to the Hills Shire

Football fans from Castle Hill will be able to cheer on their local players in a new competition next year.

After years of discussion, a new Sydney Hills Football Association has been formed and will have its inaugural season in 2016.

The league includes the Castle Hill RSL Rockets and Castle Hill United, along with nine other teams from around the Hills Shire.

Each team will have its own grounds and will play during the winter season next year. Fans could use Signs and Banners to show their support for teams as they compete to become the first Sydney Hills Association champions.

Hills Shire Mayor Dr. Michelle Byrne officially launched the association at a special event at Fred Caterham Reserve and said she was pleased to support the initiative that would encourage people to keep active. She said:

"The concept of a Hills league has been talked about for decades and it took real drive and determination to make it happen. The more people playing weekend sport, the more fit and healthy our community is.”

The clubs in the Association have around 8,000 players from young children to senior teams for men and women.

Registrations are open in December, so anyone thinking about joining a club or any local club that still wants to join the Association still has time to do so. For more information, visit the Association website.
