Work behind the scenes has resulted in more than $145,000 being raised for The Hills Library, Castle Hill, including the most recent donation of $10,000.
Over the past 25 years, a volunteer group known as Friends of The Hills Library has worked tirelessly to not only raise money for the library, but also promote reading and literature throughout the Hills area.
During the group’s latest cheque presentation to the library Hills Shire, Deputy Mayor Dr Byrne paid tribute to the group’s community spirit, which she described as invaluable.
Friends of the Hills Library began modestly as a small group of library lovers in 1994 and has since grown to become a formidable and dedicated team of volunteers who are hardworking and passionate about helping a good cause, according to the Deputy Mayor.
The occasion also saw one of its members May Raeside acknowledged for her service to the organisation with a lifelong membership award.
He added that the best of the area’s community spirit was reflected by the Friends.
Dr. Byrne said donations from The Friends had been of great benefit to the library, enabling the purchase of new equipment including display stands and digital cameras, gifts for housebound library customers at Christmas and new Books. The funds also helped fund special programmes and Print services, such as flyer printing.
Anyone wishing to join The Friends can do so by filling out the registration form available at all 5 Hill’s Shire libraries.
