Castle Hill residents are being encouraged to think twice about throwing their unwanted goods away and instead selling them to a new owner on as part of this year’s Garage Sale Trail.
The nationwide event is designed to encourage communities to get together and to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill around Australia.
More than 8,000 sales took place last year with nearly three million items available to buy. The Trail organisers said the average seller made around $300 and also met 13 new people as a result of their sale.
This year the event takes place on Saturday, October 24, and the Hills Shire Council is encouraging locals to get together with other residents in their streets and run a number of sales at the same time to increase their chances of attracting visitors and selling more. Groups can also hold a sale to raise money for a charity or organisation.
Poster printing and flyer printing are cost effective ways of advertising an event like a garage sale and could be used alongside social media to spread the word about the sale.
Registrations for this year’s Trail are now open and can be made through the official website. Everyone who registers can download free promotional material, while the first 2,500 people to register will also be sent additional material to help with their event.
