The Mayor’s Christmas Library Amnesty is running for a second time, following the success of last year’s initiative.
Hills Shire Mayor Dr. Michelle Byrne said she was pleased to be able to run the scheme again this year, and hoped residents would be as generous as 2014 when more than 100 Boxes of food were collected. She said:
“Last year’s Library Amnesty brought out the generous side in our residents, as it wasn’t just those with late fees who brought food in. Seeing residents spend more than the value of their late fee on donated food was also heartening.”
Library users should look out for poster printing explaining which items can be donated and where they should be left.
Items should nonperishable and should be the equivalent value of any late fee, which will then be waived by library staff. Suggestions include pasta and rice, lollies, coffee and tea, and tins of vegetables. The food will be distributed by St Vincent de Paul to local families in need.
The amnesty runs from Monday, November 16, to Sunday, December 13, and Books and donations can be dropped off at any of the Shire libraries, including Castle Hill.
