A sports stadium in Castle Hill is set for an upgrade, after the Hills Shire Council and a local organisation agreed a new deal.
The Hills Basketball Association is planning to extend its venue and has received a boost from council funding.
The council has agreed to lend the association money to add two extra courts to the stadium at Fred Caterson Reserve, as well as renewing the organisation’s lease on the existing building.
One will be a show court and seat 600 people, while the other will be a standard playing court.
Association general manager Steve Burke told Hills News that the group had been working towards the upgrade for a decade, and the announcement was “a massive step forward”.
As well as the new courts, the plans also include referee facilities, changing rooms, and a first aid room, plus an upgrade to the car parking and infrastructure.
Printing services could be used to create large-scale pictures and plans to show stadium users what the area will look like once the upgrade is complete.
The organisation hopes that by extending, it will be able to provide a better experience for its current members and attract new players.
The plan has yet to be approved by the Office of Local Government, but if approval is forthcoming it is hoped that work will begin early next year.
