Chance to champion local business support

Residents from Castle Hill and around the area are being encouraged to nominate local businesses for a new award.

The Sydney Hills Business Awards for Community Contribution is a new initiative from the Hills Shire Council. The awards will recognise companies that help the local community. It could be that the business supports a local sports team, or that staff contribute skills to help a charity or look after the local environment.

Jim Taggart, an adjunct professor who is also a local entrepreneur, and Member of Parliament David Elliott developed the scheme, which is designed to acknowledge firms that go out of their way to help.

Professor Taggart said local firms deserved some praise for their efforts. He commented:

“These businesses are out there doing their best to help people and the community as a whole. I think that’s something that is well worth recognising and well worth shouting about. Let’s give them the pat on the back that they well and truly deserve.”

Chosen companies will be able to ask printing companies to add the accolade to their Business Cards, or to advertising material to show their links with local groups.

Residents can nominate a business via an online form on the Hills Shire Council website, or a printed version that can be collected from the council. Entries must be submitted by Monday, June 30th.
