Artist's Australia Day masterpiece to tour the Hills

Community members of the Hills District, including Castle Hill, will have an opportunity to view a special artwork created to help celebrate Australia Day.

Artist and muralist Samuel Kim's large-scale artwork features a sunflower and was created via the use of aerosol paints in Heritage Park. The project was executed during the Vibes Australia Day programme, funded through the Festival of Place, which is an initiative of the State Government.

In total, 42 artists were enlisted to activate sites throughout the Hills District, including Baulkham Hills, Stockland Mall's Grove Square, Glenorie Bakery, Norwest Lake, Heritage Park and Castle Towers.

The idea to make Samuel's artwork mobile and share the commissioned piece with members of the entire community was an exciting one, according to Hills Shire Mayor Michelle Byrne, who added:

"It would be a shame not to share this wonderful piece with the rest of The Hills. That's why we've made the decision to display Samuel's artwork at various venues across the region."

Byrne said the artwork was eye-catching and able to brighten any room or mood, while also providing an ideal backdrop for those wishing to take a photograph. Artworks such as this have often featured on brochure printing campaigns that promote upcoming art exhibitions.

The mayor was extremely delighted with the musicians and artists who helped make Australia Day 2021 so exciting, fun and vibrant.
