Thousands of young performers feature as Entertainment Centre takes final bow

Last month, children from throughout the Warringah Council area, including Brookvale, took part in what was the final Schools Spectacular to be held at the iconic Sydney Entertainment Centre.

Since its inception in 1984, the event, which has brought together talented youngsters from throughout the state, has been held at the Centre.

This year’s 3,600 performers representing 400 public schools were determined to make the final School Spec, as it has come to be known a major spectacle that would be long remembered, according to an organiser.

Catalogues featuring the list of performances at the farewell event proved popular, and so too did the 2015 theme This Is Our World, which the organiser said captured the hopes, aspirations and dreams of young people through dance and music.

Local students taking part in performances included 32 from Years 5 and 6 at Harbord Public School, which has been competing since 2006.

The organiser said the event has also been a springboard to professional careers for some talented teens who have gone on to perform on major shows such as The Voice, Australia’s Got Talent, and The X Factor.

He said each year the event has been widely advertised on Posters and in brochure printing, and has generated great interest due to its wide appeal covering everything from marching bands and jazz to rock.

Performers were accompanied by an 80-piece orchestra and 1,500-strong choir.
