Suburbs such as Brookvale, New South Wales, that fall within Sydney’s popular northern beaches strip are about to be exposed to a new marketing innovation by Warringah Council.
The local authorities are about to become the first in New South Wales to take part in the latest online navigation tool that will effectively change its website address to www.warringah.sydney
The idea of the new .sydney domain name, according to Mayor Michael Regan, was to help promote the northern beaches and Warringah area worldwide, and to provide improved online services.
He said the ultimate aim of the council had always been to boost economic development, improve the area’s profile and showcase the northern beaches as a must-see destination.
Linking Warringah with domain names that end in .sydney, he added, gave the area – including both its businesses and its residents – instant recognition as being a part of Sydney.
Service providers and NSW residents were only recently advised of the release of the new .sydney domain names, and some moved quickly to adopt them, including well-known entities such as Sydney Fish Market, BridgeClimb Sydney and Luna Park.
Future business card printing could reflect a growing usage of the innovative .sydney domain.
Mayor Regan said the launch of the new top-level domain had put Sydney in line with leading tourist hubs and businesses around the world.
