The move follows the council's receipt of a request to name the Blackbutts Road clubhouse after Eric Galloway who was a stalwart and life member of the rugby league club, Belrose Juniors.
Awarded an OAM, Galloway made a significant contribution to cricket and rugby league, which was rewarded with him receiving NSW Rugby League's Ray Stellar Award.
To name the clubhouse after someone who was so committed and had done so much for sport within the community was considered fitting by Mayor of Northern Beaches Michael Regan, who added:
“Everyone knows Eric and this is a lovely way to recognise everything he has done and achieved for rugby league and cricket over the years.”
The second request advocated that the lookout overlooking the rock pool at South Curl Curl be named after a former mayor in the area, Brian Green.
Many community projects were completed under his leadership and through his involvement as the first mayor of the previous Warringah Council.
Highly visual local identities such as Galloway and Green have often boosted their popularity through involvement in major marketing campaigns, which can include everything from media reports to brochure printing campaigns.
To succeed, the proposed name changes need to be displayed and the subject of public comment.
