Pro skaters step up action for opening day celebrations at skate park

Skating enthusiasts from Brookvale, Mona Vale and throughout Sydney’s Northern Beaches region are expected to attend the official opening of the area’s latest attraction, the Mona Vale Skate Park.

Demonstrations by some of Australia’s top pro skaters, including Sammy Winter, Chima Ferguson and Bo Reid will feature at a special open day to mark the event. They will be joined by Jake Smyth, Bjorn Johnston, Cody Riley, Shane Azar, Reece Warren and Nik Stipanovic.

Based at Kitchener Park, the skate park, according to General Manager of Northern Beaches Council Mark Ferguson, has been eagerly awaited.

He said its completion came after close collaboration with skaters from the local community who worked on the project with the designers Convic and Council to establish the facility, which provides both a skating facility and open space.

Ferguson said the end result is a new skate park that is multidisciplinary and caters for the needs of roller-bladers, BMX riders, scooter riders and skaters.

Signs will lead the way to the special open day celebrations, which will be held on September 3 and include a huge programme of events ranging from clinics for young skaters hosted by Volcom’s Rider Convergence Crew, to outdoor games and competitions.

Ferguson said the family fun day will also feature a free barbeque and music by DJ Adam Russo, plus lots more.

A free shuttle bus will also be available from the car park at Mona Vale Beach to the new skate park.
