Following a period of public exhibition late last year, the Protect. Create. Live – Northern Beaches Environment and Climate Change Strategy 2040 has been endorsed by Council and is now set to guide the area for the next 20 years.
Improving sustainability and protection of the environment throughout the Northern Beaches are the key objectives and many of the initiatives have received strong support from residents. Public exhibitions of strategies such as this have often included everything from a graphic design of proposals to printed information.
Mayor of Northern Beaches, Michael Regan said the strategy had received a passionate response from residents who were keen to enhance and protect the area they call home, adding:
“This strategy is about making sure we are focused on doing all we can as a Council to ensure the environment is protected and enhanced into the future.”
He said actions to achieve this could include the use of electric cars by Council or putting pollutant traps within key areas of the water ways.
The strategy lists a number of key themes ranging from bushland protection and climate change action to greener neighbourhoods and air quality, and single-use plastic.
