The move follows feedback received from the community on Northern Beaches Council's Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Plan, which has recently been fully endorsed.
In a statement, the CEO of Northern Beaches, Ray Brownlee, said supporting the use of electric vehicles was important, and he added:
"In the first half of 2021, 8688 battery and plug-in EVs have been sold in Australia, which is more than in any calendar year."
Brownlee said that in excess of an estimated 2,100 hybrid or full electric vehicles were based on New South Wales' Northern Beaches. He believes the council should play a vital role in ensuring the appropriate facilities are provided to help promote the uptake of electric vehicles and, in doing so, to support the council's ambitious target that seeks to reduce emissions from vehicles by 30 percent by the year 2038.
Electric vehicles have been the subject of many brochure printing campaigns over the years to bring more awareness about their benefits to the environment.
The location of new charging stations for electric vehicles, both council and privately owned, is yet to be finalised, with a number of strategic locations under consideration, such as key hubs on-street sites and car parks.
Currently, there are eight charging stations across the area.
