The 2020 Northern Beaches Art Prize, which was conducted online for the first time and attracted entries from throughout the area, including Brookvale, has unearthed a high calibre of local talent, according to Mayor Michael Regan.
In announcing the top 10 Youth and Open category winners recently, the mayor said local designers and artists were invited to submit pieces of artwork in a digital postcard format that related to a ‘Postcards from the Home’ theme.
In all, there were more than 1000 entries received, from which 90 finalists were selected and eventually 10 winners for each category awarded. Winners in the Open and Youth sections won $1000 and $500 respectively.
Competitions such as this have proven a big drawcard for artists and graphic design specialists, as successful works in the 2020 Art Prize incorporated everything from photography, mixed media and digital works to ceramics, drawings and paintings.
Meanwhile, local residents have an opportunity to cast a vote that will help determine this year's winners of the People's Choice Award, with $500 as winnings for each category.
Copies of the works are available for viewing online, along with the voting form, which will need to be completed by end of business on September 15. Winners will be announced the following day.
This year's judges panel consisted of renowned Australian artist Ken Done, Artist Profile Magazine Deputy Editor Elli Walsh and Cross-Disciplinary Artist Sarah Robson.
