Spokane theater to hold magical summer camp
CYT Spokane will be offering a summer day camp in July that introduces children and teens to the wonders of Broadway.
The Magic of Broadway is a program offered by CYT Spokane where those aged 8-18 can learn about musicals. The camp is divided into two groups, though the content covered in each category is similar. Campers will get to tell their stories through song and dance while learning the vocals and choreography of famous Broadway tunes. The program helps participants develop their acting, dance, and vocal skills. A showcase for family members will be held on the last day of camp.
Four counselors will be helping the campers throughout the theater camp, including Rachel Horner, Evan Schultz, Andrew Sommerville, and Megan Sok. Horner went to Brigham Young University Idaho to study dance and technical theater, and Schultz was on an improv team for two years. Somerville has worked in over 35 shows, and Sok is still enrolled at Brigham Young University Idaho.
The first session of the camp will be from July 11 to July 15, and the second session will take place from July 25 to July 29. The program is held from 9:00 am to noon for the children’s group, and the camp will last from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm for teenagers. Theaters in charge of activities like this may use print shops for marketing their themed camps.
