Spring brings art and kites to Brazos River Park

Sugar Land International Art & Kite Festival will be returning this year to Brazos River Park in late March.

Kites of all colors, shapes, and sizes will fly overhead as cultural music and dance performances take to the Main Stage. Over 4,000 outdoor enthusiasts are expected to attend.

Main Stage entertainment will be from children’s music, magic tricks, illusions, and Latin music to African drums, African, American, Indian, Polynesian, and Indian dance.

Along with the kite flying, Sugar Land families can enjoy train rides, crafts and photo stations. A Kid’s Cultural {layground will offer both traditional American games such as musical chairs, chess, hopscotch, hula hooping, hide and seek, and other games from around the world. These include Semut, Orang, and Gajah from Sumatra; Down, Down, Down (Australia); Stretch (South Africa); Football Tennis (Czech Republic); and Piloto (Ghana). There will also be hula hoop and cultural dance contests.

A Cultural Costume Contest will feature outfits from countries such as Pakistan, Turkey, India, and China.

Houston artists will have their work shown in an art exhibit. Last year, over 50 artists created works for the onsite poster, chalk and kite flying competitions. Stationery printers often use colorful kites for the pictures on their spring notecards.

About six food trucks will be available with food and beverages inspired by world cuisines for purchase.

The International Art & Kite Festival will take place on Saturday, March 26.
