Digital makeover for Sugar Lands American Idol competition
For the last 15 years, Sugar Land Town Square has held in-person tryouts for Sugar Land’s American Idol competition, but due to the COVID-19 restrictions, this is not feasible for 2020. However, the auditions must go on, so they have gone online.
Anyone residing full-time in Fort Bend County who is 14 years of age or older is invited to submit a song performing a cappella. A video of between 30 and 60 seconds long, entry forms, and signed rules must be submitted to events@sugarlandtownsquare.com by Friday, May 8.
Judges will whittle down the entries to their favourite 12 to 15 and contact the semifinal contestants by email. Residency will be verified and performance times will be assigned.
On Saturday, June 13, from 7:30 pm until 9:30 pm, judges will choose the top three finalists. One last round of judging will decide the 2020 Sugar Land Superstar.
The winner will receive gigs at Sugar Land Town Square Plaza and other venues around the city and a prize pack with items donated by the retailers in Sugar Land Square.
The community is welcome to join the fun by bringing their own lawn chairs and enjoy the show.
Event organizers such as Sugar Land Town Square often have photos taken during these events. The photos are then taken to nearby print shops and used in the following year’s brochure printing.
