This March, Rockler Woodworking and Hardware will be hosting a crafting class called Bowl Turning with Carbide Tools for any Spring residents interested in learning how to make a wooden bowl.
Rockler Woodworking and Hardware is part of a family-owned chain of woodworking and hardware shops, with one shop located in Spring. It frequently hosts classes for locals interested in different woodworking techniques. The March event will teach students the step-by-step process of how to turn a wooden bowl on a lathe, and how to use carbide turning tools. At the end of the class, students will have crafted their own wooden bowl to take home.
The class will go over the various aspects of bowl turning, such as chucking, stock selection, and different bowl finishes. Safety glasses will be provided, as well as gloves should students have to share tools. Organizers ask that masks be worn in accordance with local ordinances. Long-sleeved shirts should be rolled up and long hair tied up, while shoes should not be open-toed.
With instructional events such as this, some organizers may choose to use printing services to prepare informational materials for students to use.
The bowl turning class is slated for Saturday, March 6, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm CST. Tickets are $75. To register, visit the organizer’s website.
