Children with sensory issues will soon be able to attend a football camp designed just for them.
The Sensory-Friendly Football Camp is an adaptive sports program organized by ABA Centers for children with sensory sensitivities. The camp is designed to provide a structured and supportive environment in which participants can engage in football-related activities tailored to individual sensory needs. Organizers describe the program as focusing on participation, comfort, and skill development rather than competition, allowing children to take part at a pace that suits them.
The camp features modified football drills led by trained coaches and volunteers experienced in working with children who require sensory accommodations. Onsite support includes designated calming areas intended to help participants manage sensory input throughout the event. In addition to activities for participants, a family wellness lounge is available, offering a quiet space with low-stimulation activities for caregivers and family members. Flyer printing could promote such an event.
The event is sponsored and hosted by the Texas ABA Centers, Tyson Center Foundation, and Legacy School of Sport Sciences. Mentorship and coaching are provided by a group of athletes and wellness advocates with professional sports backgrounds. Among those participating are former NFL players Mike Tyson and Gerrid Doaks, and NBA legend Ryan Hollins.
The Sensory Friendly Football Camp is scheduled for Saturday, January 17 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm CST at Legacy School of Sport Sciences in Spring.
